We're cultivating a community of reading at PHMS! Pine Hollow students, staff, parents, family, neighbors, & friends are encouraged to read the same book, discuss with each other, & take part in an after-school event in January. The first Community Read is Refugee by Alan Gratz. Students can check it out in the PHMS library, public library, purchase from Amazon, or go online through Scholastic. You can also purchase other books as you wish. This community read is NOT a requirement, but we would love to have participation from many students and families!
Field trip alert! Seventh grade students will be going on a field trip to Richmond, VA to tour the Virginia Holocaust Museum and the Science Museum of Virginia. Track 1 will be going on March 7. Please see the attached information. A hard copy will be sent home next week along with the permission form. Please complete both sides of the form (this will be sent home, it is not attached) and return to Mrs. Miller.
Please remember Tuesday we will be operating on a 2-hour delay schedule.

October 5--Track in Week for Quarter 2
Happy Friday!
We welcomed back Mrs. Tricario for the start of the second quarter! Daily updates will now be added to her website (Btricario.weebly.com) so feel free to check online or email if you have any questions or concerns! Students had a great first week back and have been able to adjust back to the 7th grade routines.
The skating field trip signed forms and money are due October 16. Parents can pay online through the school website (parent tab) or send in $20 cash or check. Students must turn in a signed permission slip as well. Please see this link for more information. If students need another permission slip, they need to see their science teacher. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Quarter 1 report cards will go home next Friday, October 12.
Class Updates:
SS: Next week, students will finish up discussion of the French Revolution and move into Haitian and Latin American Revolutions.
Math 7: Students will have a major assessment on Wednesday on Unit 3: Measuring Circles.
Math 7 Plus: Students will continue working through Unit 6 focusing on expressions and equations next week.
All Math students: This quarter students will continue to have practice problems to complete each night on the workbook lessons they covered in class. We will be using Khan academy for our weekly spiral review due each Friday. Students must show their work or write an explanation for each problem on their own paper. All answers will be submitted online and I will collect their work/explanation paper in class on Friday. There will be anywhere from 4-6 assignments each week (each assignment is 4-8 questions) and the average of those assignments will go into PowerSchool as one grade. Khan Academy also has an app available for use. Please remind them to watch the videos or use the hints for help! There is a reminder and link for this below each question. Students can also redo an assignment if they wish! I will use the score from the best attempt.
ELA: Students are reading Lyddie in class and have had nightly homework. Ask students about chapters 1-8, and if they are behind, this weekend would be a great chance to catch back up. There's an audio reading of the book on Youtube, linked from my website.
Science: Students began physics this week. Students will continue learning about motion and forces. Students will be discussing and interacting with the three laws of motion.

Teachers just received access to the grade book yesterday, and we promise to work towards updating them as soon as we can. Please be patient as we try to enter grades. If there are blanks that means we have not entered scores yet. Once we enter our grades we will work on updating Mrs. Tricario's grades as well. We hope to have everything updated by the end of Tuesday. Scores entered as "Formative" do not count towards the student's average in the class.
Students are allowed to bring a water bottle with them to class. We want students, especially those trying out for sports soon, to stay hydrated.
Class Updates:
ELA: Students will take their major on Monday. This is not something they can really study for, but they can review their notes and feedback from the practice assignments. Students read the excerpts of the articles that they will be using on Monday's major today. They can review those as needed too.
Science: Students finished up with air and atmosphere. We'll officially begin water cycle Monday. The first science major is scheduled for August 10.
Math 7: Students will finish up unit 1 lesson 11 on Monday and have a major assessment on Unit 1 on Wednesday. I have posted the study guide on google classroom and students will get a copy of it on Monday. We will continue working on it in class on Tuesday.
Math Plus: Students started Unit 2 Proportional Reasoning today in class. They received a new math workbook for this unit. They should keep the unit one's workbook at home for future reference. They will continue to learn about proportional relationships next week.
Social Studies: Students have received a study guide and will review in class on Monday. Tuesday will be the major assessment on the Age of Exploration. The next unit is the Age of Colonization.
Happy Friday!
Teachers just received access to the grade book yesterday, and we promise to work towards updating them as soon as we can. Please be patient as we try to enter grades. Just a friendly reminder that teachers cannot enter grades until after the 3rd week of school due to the new system. We will enter them as soon as we are able. Please use our teacher websites to stay up to date on homework and daily work, especially for students who are missing school. It is the student's responsibility to make up any missed assignments while they are not at school. phms71.weebly.com
